Beer (5.1%)

Nothing Beer (5.1%) was a limited edition rice lager released by Nothing, and brewed in collaboration with Freetime Beer Co - a microbrewery in Swansea, Wales. It has an ABV of 5.1%.

History & launch

Beer (5.1%) was first teased by Nothing on 1 April 2023, leading many to believe it was an April Fool’s joke. However, a day later, Nothing confirmed the product was real, with the tagline “technically refreshing”. Nothing described the drink as “crisp, unfiltered rice lager. Carefully crafted for a distinct and drier taste”.[1]

It officially launched in October 2023, with limited availability in the UK due to alcohol shipping restrictions. Users could purchase Beer (5.1%) from nothing.tech in the UK, and Nothing Store Soho for £20 for 6 cans.[2] Nothing hoped to expand availability beyond the UK at a later date, but this never happened.[3]

Production

A limited run of Beer (5.1%) was brewed by Freetime Beer Co, an independent brewery based in Swansea, Wales. The recipe included water, rice, malted barley, hops, and yeast.[3]

The beer made an appearance at several in-person events in the UK, both in silver (pre-production) and white (production) can designs. Some users even received custom labelled cans.

In 2025, Freetime Beer Co ceased operations[4] and Nothing has not announced any further beer products.

Style & taste profile

Style: Unfiltered rice lager, light in colour with a dry body and refreshing finish.

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.1%.

Taste notes: Citrus aromas, a dry malt profile, balanced with Kazbek hops and an earthy/spicy bitter finish.[5]

Legacy

Although Beer (5.1%) had a limited run, the can design appeared once more in 2026, when Nothing produced a series of beer can shaped reusable cups and distributed some as free gifts alongside a purchase of Phone (3) or Ear (3), dependant on region.[6,7,8] It is not known how many of these were manufactured or distributed.
