Nothing develops a range of first-party software, applications and developer tools, designed to support its ecosystem of smartphones and audio devices. The company's software strategy and design focuses on minimalism and seamless integration between its devices. Their software portfolio includes the Android-based Nothing OS, Glyph Interface tools and projects under the Essential branding.
Nothing OS is Nothing's Android-based operating system, designed for Nothing and CMF by Nothing devices. It was first introduced alongside Phone (1) in 2022 and has undergone significant updates and improvements in the years since. It combines a near-stock Android experience with custom visual elements and widgets inspired by minimalism, dot-matrix displays and monochrome design when paired with the Nothing Icon Pack.
Nothing OS natively supports Nothing's Glyph Interface system both in its original form and the newer Glyph Matrix and Glyph Bar versions, allowing users to customise ringtones and notification sounds, as well as setting Essential Notifications.[2]
Nothing also provides a first-party Glyph Software Developer Kit (Glyph SDK, also known as GDK) which allows third party developers to integrate their apps with the Glyph Interface.[3] This paved the way for apps such as Glyph Museum, which enables users to draw and share art and animations directly on the Glyph Matrix.[4]
